EBT Discounts in Kansas

Last Updated: May 2026 Source: USDA & state agency guidelines (FY2026)

Your Kansas Vision Card opens doors far beyond the grocery store. In 2026, Kansas Food Assistance recipients can access discounted admission at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Sedgwick County Zoo and Exploration Place in Wichita, the Topeka Zoo, the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center, and more than a dozen other science centers, zoos, children’s museums, and historic sites across the state.

Your card also qualifies you for half-price Amazon Prime, free or low-cost phone and internet service through Lifeline, produce-matching at farmers markets through Double Up Food Bucks, Summer EBT for children, and energy bill assistance through LIHEAP.

This is the complete guide to every EBT discount available to Kansas residents in 2026, organized by city and program.

A Note on Kansas’s SNAP Program

Kansas’s SNAP program is called Food Assistance and is administered by the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF). Benefits are loaded monthly onto the Kansas Vision Card — Kansas’s name for the EBT card. When venues ask to see a “SNAP card” or “EBT card,” your Kansas Vision Card is what you present.

At all Kansas Museums for All venues, you show your Kansas Vision Card and a valid photo ID at the ticket window. The card is used only for identification to verify SNAP enrollment — you pay any admission price separately with cash, credit, or debit. Your EBT benefit balance cannot be used to pay for admission.

Most Kansas venues accept EBT cards from any state. Exceptions are noted clearly below.

Amazon Prime — Half Price for Kansas SNAP Recipients

Kansas Food Assistance recipients qualify for Amazon Prime at $6.99 per month — less than half the standard $14.99 monthly rate. The membership includes free two-day shipping, Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Reading, and the ability to shop SNAP-eligible groceries through Amazon Fresh and Walmart delivery.

Sign up through Amazon’s Prime for EBT page and verify your enrollment by uploading a photo of your Kansas Vision Card or a recent benefit letter. A credit or debit card is required as a backup payment method. The $6.99 fee cannot be charged to your EBT balance. A free 30-day trial is available if you have never had Amazon Prime before.

Hutchinson — The Cosmosphere & Strataca

Cosmosphere (Hutchinson) — $3 per person, up to four people

The Cosmosphere is Kansas’s most remarkable museum and one of the finest space museums in the world. Located in Hutchinson, it holds the largest collection of U.S. and Russian space artifacts outside of Washington, D.C. and Moscow respectively — second only to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.

Kansas SNAP cardholders receive $3 per person admission to the Hall of Space, for up to four people, by presenting a SNAP EBT card and photo ID at the Box Office. The $3 EBT rate includes access to CosmoKids, an interactive STEM play area for children.

The Hall of Space collection includes Apollo 13 command module Odyssey — the actual spacecraft that Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise used during the famous 1970 mission — along with a Soviet SR-71 spy plane, Mercury and Gemini capsules, full-scale rocket replicas, and hundreds of authentic space artifacts. Few museums in the country offer this depth of content at any price, let alone $3 per person.

Bonus: If you visit both the Cosmosphere and Exploration Place in Wichita within 30 days, you receive a $5 discount at your second museum — making two world-class Kansas science destinations even more affordable.

Hours: Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Address: 1100 North Plum, Hutchinson, KS. EBT cards from all states are accepted.

Strataca — Kansas Underground Salt Museum (Hutchinson)

Strataca is the underground salt museum located in the same Hutchinson complex as the Cosmosphere, 650 feet below ground in an active salt mine. Contact Strataca directly for current EBT discount availability; the Cosmosphere’s partner discount ($5 off) applies when visiting both Strataca and Exploration Place within 10 days.

Wichita — Sedgwick County Zoo, Exploration Place & More

Sedgwick County Zoo (Wichita) — $5 per person with EBT

The Sedgwick County Zoo is the largest zoo in Kansas and one of the top zoos in the Midwest, home to more than 3,000 animals from around the world. Kansas SNAP cardholders receive $5 per person admission through the Museums for All program, compared to the standard rate of $33 for adults and $28 for children. Show your EBT card and photo ID at the ticket window.

Highlights include Downing Gorilla Forest, Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley, a rhinoceros exhibit, sea lions, orangutans, and the new Africa complex. Winter Wednesdays (November through February) offer $5 admission to everyone — making a winter zoo visit an especially good value for EBT cardholders who already qualify at that rate year-round.

EBT cards from all states are accepted for the Museums for All rate.

Note: Wild Lights (the holiday lights event) does not accept SNAP/EBT cards for ticket purchases.

This discount applies during regular daytime admission hours and does not include after-hours events or Zoo Lights.

The Discovery Center is designed for children up to age 10 and features hands-on SNAP, science, technology, engineering, art, and math exhibits, an outdoor garden, and programs that change throughout the year.

EBT cardholders can visit as many times as they like and receive the $3 rate each visit.

Statewide — Double Up Food Bucks at Kansas Farmers Markets

Kansas SNAP recipients can access Double Up Food Bucks at participating farmers markets across the state, which matches SNAP spending dollar-for-dollar on fresh, locally grown Kansas fruits and vegetables — up to $25 per visit in matching credits. Participating locations include markets in Wichita, Kansas City, Topeka, Lawrence, and other communities.

To find the Double Up Food Bucks booth at a participating market, ask at the market information desk when you arrive. Matching credits can only be used on fresh produce — not other groceries.

Sunflower Summer — Free Admission for Kansas Families

The Sunflower Summer program provides free admission to museums, zoos, historical attractions, and nature centers across Kansas for Kansas families with school-age children (Pre-K through 12th grade). While the program is available to all Kansas resident students — not only SNAP cardholders — SNAP families are fully eligible and the program dramatically expands free entertainment options each summer.

Sunflower Summer has historically included many of the same attractions listed in this guide — including the Cosmosphere, Topeka Zoo, Exploration Place, and dozens of other sites. Tickets are available through the Sunflower Summer app at sunflowersummer.org. Participating attractions for 2026 are announced each summer.

Phone & Internet — Lifeline

Kansas Food Assistance recipients automatically qualify for the federal Lifeline program, which provides up to $9.25 per month off a monthly phone or internet bill. To apply, visit lifelinesupport.org or contact a participating carrier. See the Lifeline application guide for step-by-step instructions.

Energy Assistance — LIHEAP

Kansas Food Assistance households automatically meet the income threshold to apply for LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program), which helps pay heating and cooling costs. Benefits can cover hundreds of dollars in energy costs per year.

Receiving even a small LIHEAP payment also automatically qualifies your household for the highest SUA tier in your SNAP benefit calculation — which can increase your monthly Food Assistance benefit.

See the LIHEAP application guide to apply in Kansas. Contact 211 Kansas (dial 2-1-1) to find the nearest LIHEAP office in your county.

Summer EBT for Children — Kansas SUN Bucks

Kansas families with school-age children who receive Food Assistance automatically qualify for SUN Bucks (Summer EBT), which provides $120 per eligible child each summer to replace free school meals. Funds load directly to your Kansas Vision Card in June–August with no separate application needed for Food Assistance households.
