Does Uber Eats Take EBT?—SNAP Policy & EBT Delivery Alternatives

Last Updated: May 2026 Source: USDA & state agency guidelines (FY2026)

No — Uber Eats does not accept EBT. Uber Eats is a restaurant and food delivery platform, and federal SNAP rules prohibit using EBT to purchase hot prepared restaurant meals at non-authorized locations. Additionally, Uber Eats has not been approved by the USDA as a SNAP retailer and does not support EBT payment processing on its platform.

This is a hard no — not a “some locations” situation, not a hot food exception, not a state-by-state difference. EBT does not work on Uber Eats anywhere in the United States.

Two Reasons EBT Can’t Work on Uber Eats

Reason 1: Restaurant meals are not SNAP-eligible Federal law prohibits using SNAP benefits to purchase hot, prepared food for immediate consumption — which is exactly what Uber Eats delivers. This rule applies at any restaurant, food truck, or prepared food vendor, regardless of the platform used to order.

The only exception is the Restaurant Meals Program (RMP), which allows elderly, disabled, and homeless SNAP recipients to use EBT at authorized restaurants in nine states. But even in RMP states, Uber Eats is not an authorized RMP vendor — the program requires in-person dining at approved locations, not delivery platform orders.

Reason 2: No USDA authorization Even if Uber Eats added grocery partners, it would need USDA SNAP retailer authorization and EBT PIN-based payment infrastructure — a process it has not pursued. Compare this to DoorDash, which has completed USDA authorization for EBT at select grocery store partners (not restaurants).

What You Can Use Instead

If you need food delivered and want to pay with EBT, here’s what actually works:

For grocery delivery:

Instacart — the broadest EBT-enabled delivery option. Accepts EBT at thousands of participating grocery stores in all 50 states. Full guide: does Instacart take EBT.

Walmart Grocery — EBT accepted for delivery and pickup through Walmart.com and the app. No membership required.

Amazon Fresh — EBT accepted in 48 states. Prime at $6.99/month for SNAP cardholders. Full guide: can you use EBT on Amazon.

DoorDash — accepts EBT at select grocery and convenience store partners (ALDI, Meijer, and others). Not for restaurant orders. Full guide: does DoorDash take EBT.

For hot prepared meals specifically:

If you need hot meals and use SNAP, the Restaurant Meals Program is the only EBT-authorized path. It covers elderly (60+), disabled, and homeless recipients in Arizona, California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Rhode Island, and Virginia. See restaurants that accept EBT for participating locations.

For seniors or homebound individuals who cannot cook, Meals on Wheels delivers free or low-cost prepared meals to qualifying households — it doesn’t use EBT, but it works alongside SNAP. Dial 211 to find a program near you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Uber Eats accept EBT or SNAP cards?

No — Uber Eats does not accept EBT, SNAP, or food stamp cards. This applies to all Uber Eats orders in all states. EBT payment is not available on the Uber Eats platform.

Can I use EBT on Uber Eats in California or other RMP states?

No. Even in states with the Restaurant Meals Program, Uber Eats is not an authorized RMP vendor. The RMP requires in-person dining at specifically approved restaurant locations — it does not extend to food delivery apps.

Does Uber Eats accept EBT cash (TANF)?

No — neither SNAP food benefits nor EBT cash benefits are accepted on Uber Eats.

What food delivery app accepts EBT?

DoorDash accepts EBT for grocery orders at select store partners (not restaurants). Instacart accepts EBT at thousands of grocery stores. Neither accepts EBT for restaurant meal orders. See grocery stores that take EBT for the full list.

Will Uber Eats ever accept EBT?

Uber Eats has not announced plans to accept EBT. Its core business is restaurant delivery, which is fundamentally incompatible with SNAP rules. Even if it added a grocery delivery vertical, it would need separate USDA authorization. There is no announced timeline.
