Nevada SUN Bucks — S-EBT Eligibility, Income Limits & How to Apply

Last Updated: June 2026 Source: USDA & state agency guidelines (FY2026)

Nevada calls its Summer EBT program “S-EBT” — Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer — administered by the Nevada Division of Social Services (DSS) in partnership with the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) and the Nevada Department of Education (NDE). Eligible children receive $120 for summer grocery purchases. Benefit issuance for auto-enrolled children began May 23, 2026 — one of the earliest start dates in the country.

Nevada’s three-agency administration model is unique in this series. The operational period for 2026 runs July 1, 2025 through August 9, 2026.

Nevada’s Three-Agency Administration

Nevada is the only state in this series with a three-agency co-administration model:

  • Nevada Division of Social Services (DSS) — primary program administrator; manages eligibility and card issuance
  • Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) — involved in retailer authorization and food program coordination
  • Nevada Department of Education (NDE) — handles school-based data including NSLP/SBP certification and school enrollment records

The NDA’s involvement is unusual — most states only partner between their social services and education departments. Nevada’s agricultural department plays an active role in the food benefit structure, consistent with Nevada’s broader agricultural policy orientation.

Who Qualifies for Nevada S-EBT

Nevada calls auto-enrollment “Streamlined Certified” — the same terminology used by Maine. Nevada has two categories of Streamlined Certification eligibility.

Category 1 — NSLP/SBP School Attendance (Streamlined Certified)

Children attending a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP) who:

  • Were approved for free or reduced-price school meals during the 2025–2026 school year, OR
  • Are directly certified for free or reduced-price meals through SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, or other qualifying programs

These students are automatically enrolled through school meal certification.

Category 2 — Public Benefit Recipients (Streamlined Certified)

Children who are on a SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid case at any point during the 2025–2026 instructional year through the end of the Summer Operational Period (July 1, 2025 – August 9, 2026):

  • SNAP — qualifies without income verification
  • TANF — qualifies without income verification
  • Medicaid — household income must be confirmed at or below 185% FPL for automatic qualification

Must Apply — Income-Eligible Families Not Auto-Enrolled

Families who don’t meet either Streamlined Certification category may still qualify if the child:

  • Attends an NSLP or SBP school
  • The household meets the income guidelines for free or reduced-price meals (185% FPL)

Apply at dss.nv.gov by August 10, 2026.

Important note: Summer EBT is a one-time benefit tied to a specific school year. It cannot be retroactively applied for or claimed for previous years. Applications for prior years are not accepted.

Nevada S-EBT Income Limits 2026

For families applying based on household income:

Household SizeMonthly Gross Income LimitAnnual Gross Income Limit
1$2,248$26,973
2$3,041$36,482
3$3,834$46,006
4$4,628$55,530
5$5,421$65,052
6$6,214$74,574
7$7,008$84,098
8$7,801$93,608
Each additional+$794/month+$9,524/year

Based on 185% FPL. Confirm thresholds at dss.nv.gov.

Nevada SNAP context: Nevada’s SNAP program — administered by the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) — uses 200% FPL with no asset limit through broad-based categorical eligibility, making Nevada one of the more generous SNAP states. SNAP enrollment auto-qualifies for S-EBT regardless of the 185% S-EBT threshold. See Nevada SNAP income limits for the full SNAP picture.

Nevada’s Silver State Advantage Card

Nevada’s EBT card is called the Nevada Silver State Advantage Card — issued by DWSS for both SNAP and cash assistance benefits. S-EBT benefits for SNAP households are added to this existing card.

For non-SNAP families, a new S-EBT card is mailed. Activate it by calling the number on the back or using the ebtEDGE app.

For full activation instructions, see how to activate your SUN Bucks card.

May 23 Issuance Date — Among the Earliest in the Country

Benefit issuance for children who qualify through streamlined (automatic) eligibility began on May 23, 2026 — making Nevada one of the earliest-issuing states in the series, alongside Louisiana (May 27) and North Dakota. Families auto-enrolled in late spring should have already received their S-EBT benefit by the time school ends for the summer.

How to Apply for Nevada S-EBT

Step 1 — Confirm Streamlined Certification Status

Check whether your child was approved for free or reduced-price school meals in 2025–2026, or whether the household received SNAP, TANF, or qualifying Medicaid. If yes, your child is likely Streamlined Certified and no application is needed.

Contact your child’s school to confirm their meal certification status for 2025–2026.

Step 2 — Apply at dss.nv.gov (If Needed)

If your child is not Streamlined Certified and you believe they qualify:

  1. Go to dss.nv.gov/summer-electronic-benefit-transfer-s-ebt-program
  2. Access the application portal
  3. Complete the application for your child

Step 3 — What You’ll Need

  • Child’s name, date of birth, and Nevada school
  • School’s NSLP or SBP participation confirmation
  • Household size and gross income
  • SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid case number (if applicable)
  • Mailing address for the S-EBT card

Step 4 — Application Deadline: August 10, 2026

Nevada’s application deadline is August 10, 2026 — slightly earlier than most states’ August 31 deadline. Applications submitted after this date are not accepted for summer 2026 benefits.

Nevada’s Access Nevada Platform

Nevada’s benefits management system is called Access Nevada (accessnv.nv.gov) — administered by DWSS for SNAP, Medicaid, and other benefits. If you are an existing SNAP/DWSS client, you likely already have an Access Nevada account that can be used to manage your S-EBT case as well.

Where to Use Nevada S-EBT

Nevada S-EBT works at any authorized SNAP retailer statewide:

  • Major grocery chains — Smith’s (Kroger’s Nevada banner), Albertsons, Vons, Walmart, Raley’s, Stater Bros. (Southern Nevada), Whole Foods, WinCo Foods, Grocery Outlet
  • Farmers’ markets that accept SNAP/EBT across Nevada
  • Convenience stores with SNAP authorization
  • Online grocery ordering at Walmart and Amazon Fresh where EBT is accepted

Nevada S-EBT follows SNAP food rules — eligible for most groceries; not for hot food, alcohol, tobacco, vitamins, or non-food items. See the SNAP food eligibility guide for the full list.
